Lecture in the framework of extra-curricular activity 'Legal Clinic for Refugees', University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Law, 13 November 2014. The lecture comprised of introduction on terminology, description of origins of international refugee protection, overview of international and national sources of law, relationship between rights and duties of refugees, explanation of the idea of circles of rights based on legal status of a refugee and place of stay, the principle of non-refoulement, EU burden-sharing based on Dublin II Regulation, as well as overview of concepts of safe third country and safe country of origin. The lecture also addressed the role of the EU, its position in the context of international migration flows and the manner of which these are addressed.

Kogovšek is a member of European Network of Legal Experts in Nondiscrimination Field, coordinated by Human European Consultancy and Migration Policy Group, in cooperation with the European Commission. The Network joins more than 30 experts for this field of law from all EU member states and candidate countries. As a member she attends annual conferences and meetings of the network, writes annual research reports for the European Commission on legislation and case law in the field of nondiscrimination, drafts flash reports on developments in this field of law and prepares ad hoc legal analyses on various legal issues as requested by the European Commission. 'Report on measures to combat discrimination', which analyses the implementation of European directives 2000/43/EC and 2000/78/EC, comprehensively describes and analyses nondiscrimination law in Slovenia. It consists of nine chapters: general legal framwork, definitions, personal and material scope of protection from discrimination, exceptions from the prohibition of discrimination, positive action, legal remedies and enforcement, specialised bodies for protection from discrimination, implementation issues and coordination among state bodies.

The lecture was given upon the invitation of a youth organization MKI Mansarda. It was attended by 30 high-school students. In the lecture we presented different forms of discrimination (direct, indirect, harassment, discrimination by association, instructions to discriminate, hate speech etc.) and exceptions from the prohibition of discrimination (reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities, genuine occupational requirements, positive action etc.). We illustrated the definitions by presenting a number of examples. The lecture was followed by a discussion with an active participation of the audience.
