The former river beds, marked in cadastral maps, possess a strong "phantom" potential, which can activate itself in the right political situation. For example, the Slovenian Croatian border at the river Mura near Hotiza was not disputable in the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. However, with the dissolution of Yugoslavia its phantom potential "awakened". In the context of our project we will analyse two types of border rivers from the viewpoint of phantom borders: a) border rivers which are no longer political/administrative borders (Mura, Sava); main question: to what degree these rivers represent phantom borders? b) border rivers, which still represent political borders, but have rich historical layers and administrative legacy. Main question: which parts of the administrative legacy function as phantom borders and which parts have phantom potential?
