At the international scientific conference, where apart from scholars expert practitioners were participating, the article presented the findings of monitoring participants in a support group of divorcees. By means of longitudinal observation of affect regulation, reactions to conflicting states, the types of building relationships, and the role of therapist, the laws of effective healing were analysed. With several case studies the article opened new aspects in understanding emotional interaction in support groups; according to the target group, it promoted searching for help either in therapy or in a support group for the divorced. The findings represent a significant initiative for other researchers who have started to work with these groups that have a great potential in Slovenia: the demand for this type of psycho-social help for divorced individuals is increasing, and there are visible positive effects of groups on life quality of divorced persons, and lower direct and indirect costs for individuals, society and economy

COBISS.SI-ID: 7032154The article is based on theoretical and empirical starting points of foreign and Slovenian studies of transition to parenthood as a period of heightened risk for the dissolution of partnership. The results of qualitative research are demonstrated; the article focuses on the analysis of changes within partnership transiting to parenthood as factors of intense vulnerability and risk of marital instability, decreased partnership quality and satisfaction in parents who experienced divorce after the arrival of a child in partners’ dyad, and defines risk elements such as instable relationship prior to the birth of a child, overly permeable borders towards the family of origin, a lack of practical and emotional support, unreal expectations, and gives guidelines for therapeutic and other preventive and educative work with partners in this life transition. In Slovenia, preventive work with future parents and the parents of very young children is insufficiently developed in spite of its proven positive effects regarding economical, health and societal aspects. The results emphasize the importance of work with couples and individuals on their way to parenthood, the objectives of this work being to reduce risk for the dissolution of relationship and to develop skills necessary to cope with change which consequently reduces societal and economical outcomes of the very transition to parenthood (e.g. sick leave) as well as financial and societal effects of divorce.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6922586Various supportive environments contribute to easier family restructuring. The integration of several approaches in a comprehensive support for people coping with family restructuring enables effective reduction of and coping with emotional distress. The article explains how relational family therapy and family mediation are interwoven, and it opens a significant discussion on types, forms and efficiency of help according to needs, desires and specifics of people in the process of divorce as well as the availability of said help in a society where looking for help is still stigmatized. Presented models of help also positively impact societal welfare; by promoting these models the speed and effectiveness of solving problems accompanying divorce are increasing, consequently lowering the costs of formal divorce procedures as well as indirect costs (use of medication, decrease in productivity, loss of social capital, etc.) prior to, during and after divorce.
