The present paper aims to address the sustainable management issues of karst water sources in Slovenia and Croatia. It focuses on the Mediterranean part of the Dinaric karst, which holds important groundwater reserves. The importance of selected karst aquifers for water supply is presented. In addition, national drinking water management strategies are examined in order to synthesise the issues relating to the exposure of groundwater to contamination and over-exploitation. Finally, the most significant problems, pressing needs and challenges are identified. These depend predominantly on revision of existing drinking water protection strategies and integration of karst-specific provisions, aspects of over-exploitation and proper water quality control. The need for harmonised multi-country policies regulating resource abstraction and contamination issues is stressed.

In this paper, it is argued that after decades of a strong dominance of the notion of housing affordability in the housing provision discourse in Western European countries, there is a need to depart from this notion and shift the emphasis to housing accessibility. Our main argument is that affordability does not necessarily guarantee accessibility for all. Starting with a review of the recent housing policy changes across Europe, the central part of the paper focuses on the discussion about the characteristics and inappropriateness of the concept of affordability and the introduction of the concept of housing accessibility. In the last part of the paper, we build on the notions of ‘merit good’ and ‘right to housing’ as the theoretical bases for proposing the introduction of a universal housing care system, along the principles of the universal health care system successfully practiced in many developed countries.

Due to ageing of the population, the issue of suitable housing provision for the elderly is becoming increasingly critical. Several types of housing are available to the elderly in Slovenia, and this article focuses on the two most widespread forms: eldercare facilities and owner-occupied housing. It presents their features, critically analyses the problems connected with both types of housing and presents solutions to these problems. The article is based on an analysis of relevant research literature, statistical data and the findings of studies dealing with this topic. It discusses and introduces new findings on possible ways of ensuring an adequate level of housing provision for the elderly in Slovenia in the future.

This paper discusses an innovative approach towards addressing and measuring quality of living environments. It introduces the model which talks about quality of living environments via quality of time spent in a residents daily routine. The aim is to elucidate an approach which can help planners and decision makers as well as ordinary people to create or identify suitable and effective environments for well-being. It examines relationships between characteristic profiles, their activities and the environments they are involved in, analysing three key parameters: time balance, financial balance and time-quality balance.

Focusing on a current social issue, this paper aims to direct marketing towards a broader perspective and meaningful improvements in terms of a more systemic focus, an integrative role, and a multi-disciplinary approach. For this purpose, the macromarketing approach and the concept of aggregated marketing systems are presented in the theoretical part, which are then applied to the system of public transport. In the empirical part, views of the representatives of different institutions are compared regarding the issue of the public transport development and management, with the objective of increasing consumers’ awareness and their utilization of the public transport. The comparison addresses key characteristics and improvements of the system, its development and management, its key inputs/outputs, and the role of consumers in the public transport system. The results suggest a substantial agreement with the proposition that a shift from the campaign-oriented to the system/ integrated development and management of the public transport system is necessary. In regards to other issues, there are substantial differences between the institutions, and as such they bring out different research and management implications for not-for-profit marketing.
