One of the the most important independent IT conferences in Slovenia OTS 2014 (www.ots.si) Advanced technologies and services was organized for the nineteenth time. It connects companies and academia enabling knowledge transfer on advanced IS/IT approaches, tools, services and technologies. The conference is aimed at IS/IT professionals, researchers and developers. The focus of the OTS 2014 conference was on IoT, smart devices and things, advanced web technologies, service-oriented architectures and solutions, data governance. Nearly 170 participants attended at the OTS 2014 Conference.

COBISS.SI-ID: 78473729In 2014 the conference “Collaboration, Software and Services in Information Society” was organized for the fourteenth time as a part of the “Information Society” multi-conference. As in previous years, the papers from the proceedings addressed actual challenges and best practices related to successful collaboration as well as to service and software engineering. Relevant challenges are addressed not only from a technical point of view, but also by combining concepts, approaches, methods and theories from different domains and disciplines, whereas pilot projects and case studies assist in identifying and establishing best practices.

COBISS.SI-ID: 275924992Microbiological analysis of cultivable microbiota was performed for the needs of the project "Construction of pilot reactor for drying and disinfection of sludges from communal and/or industrial sewage plants" . Results base on analyses of microbiota from unstabilized and stabilized sludges as inputs and air emissions from vacuum pumps, condensed water and dried sludge as outputs. Samples were inoculated to complex media and incubated. Strains, forming colonies, were identified by analyses of gene sequences at 16S rRNA. Most of the microbiota belongs to obligate or facultative soil anaerobes. Processes inside the reactor (hypobaric drying) eliminate microbiota from air emissions and condensed water, and decimate microbiota in dried sludge. We did not find pathogens in our samples so second level safety protocols are proposed.

COBISS.SI-ID: 18471958This dissertation addresses a holistic approach to objective XML schema evaluation. Quality of XML schemas has an important impact on information services and solutions. Because of the extensive use of XML schemas within different domains for various purposes, the key research question addressed aspects and quality variables that apply generally to all XML schemas or are domain specific. An approach was developed, enabling an objective XML schema evaluation. A quality index was defined and validated, based on six quality aspects (structure, transparency, optimality, minimalism, re-use and integrability). To evaluate quality aspects, composite metrics were presented and validated on a set of 250 XML schemas. With empirical research and statistical analysis domain specific quality aspects were identified, as well as a domain specific vector for XML schema evaluation. A set of guidelines and good practices in XML schema development was presented, as well as domain specific XML schema building patterns.

COBISS.SI-ID: 17585430In 2014 Prof. Gyorkos was a member and the Chair of the CONNECT Advisory Forum for ICT Research and Innovation (CAF). The CAF core group involves a number of leading personalities of the European ICT industry, large public research organisations and academics addressing not only the scientific and technological aspects of ICT but also the economic and societal impacts of new developments. The advisory role of the CAF goes beyond informing our understanding of the future of ICT research and innovation and shaping the choice of EU's priorities in this area.
