In this invited lecture an overview of the current status of extracellular cathepsins was presented, including the finding that cathepsins shed different membrane-attached proteins from the membrane.

COBISS.SI-ID: 28974375The poster displayed the effects of tocopherol, acetylcysteine, the SOD-mimetic MnTBAP and tempol in models of cell death triggered by TNF, sturosporin and menadione. The most efficient antioxidant was acetylcysteine, which efficiently blocked menadione-induced necrosis. Interestingly, Tempol was found to very efficiently blocked TNF-induced apoptosis, however, the effect was independent of its antioxidant properties.
