Scientific book chapter presents all important speleogenetic phases during development of Križna jama and Križna jama. The latter is included to the list of 6 the most strictly protected caves in Slovenia. In addition, conditions and intensities of flowstone deposition are discussed in a way how they are related to CO2 outgassing from the water and subsequential geochemical changes in karst water that leads to calcite deposition (additional flux of carbon from the water). From this point of view, paper discusses the phenomena researched in postdoc project.

Book chapter discusses recent and Pleistocene hydrogeological characteristics of Križna jama. Past water tracing experiments are evaluated among which water tracing in 2007 stands out due to specific findings - origin of water that flows through Križna jama is related to prevailing authigenic recharge. Therefore, high CO2 pressure in water is not surprising. Underground hydrological mapping pointed out influxes of water rich in CO2. Further downstream, lower CO2 partial pressure in cave atmosphere generates flux of CO2 from the water into the cave atmosphere.
