An article about the Passion mystical tradition as developed by the medieval theologian Jan van Ruusbroec. His influence on subsequent baroque spirituality has been remarkable. He was popular author among Baroque Capuchins, and was read, as evidenced by the material in libraries, also in Slovenia.

If Origen, in the context of contemporary Hellenistic philosophy, always refers to stars as to external cosmic entities similar to angels except for their material bodies, his later disciple Evagrius of Pontus, and after him the Nestorian Syrian mystics of the 7th and 8th centuries, sharply radicalise such cosmological reflections in the context of their mysticism. Rather than as objects of the external world, stars are perceived as shapeless forms in the firmament of the mind or soul. In ultima analysi, a star is a 'code' for the soul itself, which unites with the primordial light of the sun, that is, of God. Such consummately 'internalised' astronomy or astrology is a unique phenomenon in late ancient religiosity, so far left unaddressed in the scholarship. It is also of importance for researching Western ascetical literature up to Baroque era.

Almost "forgotten" English Baroque theologian, mystic and poet, Thomas Traherne, is important discovery not only for English studies but also for European cultural history in general. The paper deals with structural comparison between Traherne and Matija Kastelec whom Slovenian cultural history claims to be the first Slovenian Baroque author. Beside "theology of cross" they have in common theological meditations on eternity. Their common source is undoubtedly the Jesuit meditative and contemplative texts which has in 17th century spread across Europe. The case of Thomas Traherne may serve as a demonstration that Slovenian religious Baroque has too then reached level of European culture.

The background of Gosar's thought on Christian spirituality, as it can be found in his late work "One is the Lord: Thougts on Kingdom of God on Earth" is profoundly linked to Medieval and Baroque Christianity. Here one should consider the FranciscanCapuchin democratization of "high" spirituality. Common man, especially lay person, has to live in modernity as the "second Franciscus", that is to develop both the contemplative and active dimension od spiritual life.
