In our study, we have prepared two natural Agelas alkaloids clathrodin, oroidin and a series of their analogues, and evaluated their antimicrobial activity against a panel of laboratory strains of known pathogens, representing Gram+ (Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram- bacteria (Escherichia coli), and fungi (Candida albicans). 39 compounds were screened, 12 of them showed to be active ()80% microbial growth inhibition) and were taken for further studies (dose-response and cytotoxicity testing). The most promising results were obtained for derivatives 6h with MIC90 of 12.5 μM against the Gram+ bacteria and 50 μM against E. coli. The results of our work were presented on the 14th International Symposium on Marine Natural Products and the 8th European Congress on Marine Natural Products, held from 15th - 20th of September 2013 in La Toja, Galicia, Spain.
