The study shows the specific traits of tourism lexis which is characterized by strong terminologization and de-terminologization processes, or rather, by the mutual influence of general lexis and multidisciplinary terminology within the field of tourism. The lexical entry provides information about the source field of a term through the indication of the type of tourism and the specific field indication, definition of term as well as illustrative examples. Determining the tourism subfields is especially important with multidisciplinary terms, since their meanings and concepts intertwine differently in various fields.

The monograph presents the vast field of tourism discourse. Proceeding from the definition of language for specific purposes (LSP), which in turn shapes the concept of specialized discourse, we are able to define tourism discourse as a language of a broad and mobile discourse community which encompasses several other social and professional fields, as well as a variety of texts and specialized languages from different fields, professions and sciences. All of these aspects shape and form the language of tourism which is also consistently connected to the general language due to this broad and varied discourse community. The monograph introduces a typology of tourism texts, emphasizing tourism advertising as well as technical and scientific texts, and indicates the importance of corpora of tourism texts, such as the open access corpus TURK. In the last part of the monograph tourism is discussed as a highly intercultural activity that, due to this very aspect, retains an important role in shaping the local, regional, and national identity and culture. Only when tourism represents a reflection of the society and stems from the host’s conscious attitude towards the identity of the community, it can become an effective industry and a representative image of the community.
