The volume Sounds of Attraction: Yugoslav and Post-Yugoslav Popular Music features articles that touch on a longer historical framework, beginning before socialist Yugoslavia and leading up to the present. Its aim is to contribute to further discussions on the relationship between the development of the popular music scene and the Yugoslav socialist system. From what we know about popular music in former Yugoslavia and its later destiny, the aesthetic preferences of music audiences appear to have had a much deeper impact on the development of the socialist state and its successors than is usually thought to be the case. The volume features nine chapters and introduction; ten scholars from the region collaborated in its making.

COBISS.SI-ID: 55538274At the congress of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, with more than 1.000 participants, the panel, organised by the research group, aimed to discuss and present ethnographic studies in recent global development of seemingly hidden resistance, e.g., in music venues, cultural centres, community venues, squats, etc.; open resistance in streets and social media; and, finally, stubborn resistance to change with activation of not long ago obsolete music genres, activities and venues. The panelists discussed music and resistance in various historical and political contexts, not only resistance to social injustice, but as well to social change. They presented ethnographic studies of various modes of resistance in music and related social activities.
