During their complex, initially spontaneous and later predominantly dictated modernisation, the western countries accepted intellectuals into their state apparatuses. As a result, the latter never formed an independent, oppositional group of citizens.They subscribed to various ideological trends while working as intellectuals in the public sphere. Russia, on the other hand, underwent a different process.

The monographic book Linguistic Etudes, Variations and Rhimes of A. V. Isatchenko specialistically (in a specialistic manner) deals with three papers written by A. V. Isatchenko during his stay in Ljubljana. Special attention is dedicated to the discussion Slovenian Verse, in which the scientist established the foundations for the scientific treatment of Slovenian poetry, with emphasis on metrics and structuralistic procedures of the research. All three papers contain the typological characteristics of the linguistic research, that A. V. Isatchenko continued until the end of his international philological path. Therefore, the book represents a kind of »Introduction to the Poetics of Comparative Slavistic Linguistics of A. V. Isatchenko«.

The monograph illustrates the life story of Hilary Tofan, a professor of history and geography in Maribor real high school and a refugee from Črnovice in Bukovina, who lived in Maribor with his wife Constanca in the years 1919–29. In 1929 the couple were sued in Maribor District Court: Hilarij for raping maid Cecilija, Constanca because of home medical treatment and subsequent death of maid Margareta Dobaj. Their criminal files, which are kept in the Regional Archives of Maribor offer a unique presentation of the world after the First World War, which was emerging in a new frame of mind.

The paper presents Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Peter Gresserov – Golovin. He emigrated to Slovenia after the October Revolution, where he – at first in Ljubljana and later in Maribor – contributed as a choreographer in many operas and operettas. He was also recognized as a well-known director in music and theater performances. Between the wars, despite the poor financial situation, he kept the Slovenian ballet and raised the first generation of Slovenian ballet dancers and soloists. In year 1971 he was awarded by Order of Merit for people with silver rays for contribution in Slovenian ballet. He spent the last years of his life in Canada.

Russian scholar Aleksandr Vasilievich Makletsov is arguably the father of Slovenian Criminology, having developed numerous criminal law theories at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana from 1926 until his death. The purpose of the text is to highlight the pedagogical and scholarly importance of the erudite Professor Makletsov, as well as to show his commitment in the fields of politics, literature, translation and editing.
