Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common diseases in modern society.Despite effective drug therapy patientʼs response to treatment can vary considerably. Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics are disciplines that search for genetic factors responsible for variability in response to drug treatment on the level of the gene or the whole genome, respectively. In the article we will review different approaches for discovering of genetic variations that have significant influence on the treatment efficiency or presence of unwanted treatment side effects and cases of functional testing of such genetic variations.

Clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine (CCLM) is a scientific journal that publishes articles on all aspects of laboratory medicine. The topics presented are mostly the results of the identification of new diagnostic markers or evaluation of the already known markers. As CCLM is published by International (IFCC) and European (EFCC) Federation of Clinical Chemistry, the journal is important for the dissemination and translation of the findings to the professionals specially in the European area (including Slovenia).
