A selection of the Pierre Auger Observatory results on the study of the UHECRs was be presented, focusing on composition results. In particular, the measurements and the different roles of the observables with respect to mass composition was be discussed.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3551227After a discussion of the general status of space-time singularities in string theory we will concentrate on the case of a singular space-time as seen by an observer moving at the speed of light and we will show that the resulting metric has a very simple universal structure provided that the original space-time had a stress-energy source that satisfies the dominant energy condition. String theory in such singular homogeneous plane wave backgrounds is exactly solvable and the essential details can be described by matrix quantum mechanics with a time-dependent potential. We discuss in some detail the regularisation of this matrix quantum mechanics.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3328251To investigate if uBH induced extensive air showers (EAS) can be distinguished from normal showers started by a primary particle, we performed simulations of uBH production and decay as well as EAS evolution processes. The former was done using a coupling of BlackMax micro black hole event generator and PYTHIA hadronization software, whereas the latter incorporated the use of EAS simulator CORSIKA.
