The international research group STEP presented the results of its several-year research on theatre systems and audiences in seven European cities: Maribor (Slovenia), Debrecen (Hungary), Tartu (Estonia), Groningen (the Netherlands), Aarhus (Denmark), Bern (Switzerland) and the area of Tyneside (UK). The STEP City Study comprises a comparison of the theatre systems in these cities from different perspectives as well as an analysis of a one-year period of theatre productions, classified according to the number of premières and reprises of various genres, the number of audience attendance, etc. The researchers also presented an audience analysis from different demographic angles as well as a comparison of theatre reception of the various types and genres of theatre in these European countries. Fifteen researchers from seven European countries participated in the conference, organised and headed by Maja Šorli. The research resulted in a special issue of the scholarly journal of performing arts theory Amfiteater, which was published in Slovenian and English languages.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4010587The exhibition in Miklova Hiša Gallery in Ribnica (19 June–23 August 2015) confronted the latest works of two distinguished Slovenian painters of the late mature generation, Emerik Bernard and Milena Usenik, who fundamentally marked the transition from modernism to post-modernism. Now they are rethinking the modernist starting point and, from a conviction in the autonomy of the painting medium, are creating painting that is not invaded by the outer world. The exhibition, curated by Nadja Zgonik, revealed the potential of contemporary formalist research in painting.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3407982The monograph of Blaž Lukan includes collected theatre reviews of Slovenian theatre productions in the period 1993–2013. The reviews have been arranged into chapters by director, beginning with an introduction on the methodological approach and ending with an index of the names of artists and titles of performances. As a result of his systematic and exhaustive reflecting on performances (Lukan was a critic for the main Slovenian dailies Delo and Dnevnik), the monograph represents a thorough critical synthesis of theatrical events in this period, in the aesthetic as well as in the wider cultural and social perspective. The current publishing of these reviews, which have been co-shaping the reception of the expert and lay audience for two decades, provides substantial documentation for the research of Slovenian theatre.

COBISS.SI-ID: 282785024The international conference opened up the issues of intercultural exchange in the Slovenian territory as the intersection of Slavic, Germanic and Romanic cultures. Twenty-two researchers from Slovenia and abroad participated. They collected and inventoried the collaborations between Slovenian and foreign theatre creators that took place in the area of today’s Slovenia in the 20th and 21st centuries and researched the creativity of Slovenian artists abroad. They discussed the politics, aesthetics and ethics of intercultural exchanges and investigated how such exchanges contributed to the development of performing arts practices; how they generated strategies of production, promotion and perception; and how they co-shaped the social space as well as their significance in the context of European theatre. The conference (headed by Barbara Orel) was organised at the 50th edition of the most notable national performing arts festival Borštnikovo srečanje.
