The lectures at the University of Warwick, School of Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy Studies (Great Britain) dealt with the issues surrounding identity questions in relation to the cultural and national identities as well as citizenship. Barbara Orel discussed their representations in Slovenian theatre from the perspective of the migration policies in the newly founded countries in Central and Eastern Europe after 1989. The research programme results were also presented at the University of Bonn, where Darja Koter lectured on the traces of German musical culture in the Slovenian territory in the period from the mid 19th century to the present (COBISS.SI-ID 2494087).

COBISS.SI-ID: 3781723The paper at the world congress of the International Federation for Theatre Research dealt with the artistic part of the programme accompanying the yearly celebrations of the Slovenian Statehood Day. Although the directors of the theatrical events have no influence on the protocol part of the celebration, their symbolic “stagings of the nation” contribute to the interpellation of individuals into the national community and the shaping of its identity. The paper focused upon those theatrical events whose selected literary narrations and political texts challenged the traditional views on national identity and triggered heated debate in the public space. The analysis showed that these events played a significant part in a reconsidering of the social memory and a redefining of the Slovenian national canon.
