The candidate dealt with Slovene ethnic community in the Denver, CO. Despite the fact that it is the third largest Slovene settlement in Colorado, which is defined with the relevant ethnic organizations, events and personalities, this is the first scholarly study that comprehensively addresses the emergence and development of the Slovene community and settlements in Denver; economic, societal and social engagement of the population of Slovene ethnic origin in the area; changing of its socio-economic structure and the methods of preservation and promotion of Slovene culture, language, ethnic customs and traditions. The dissertation shows the course and factors of the establishment, development, prosperity, decline and preservation of the Slovene community in Denver. Through the review of the findings which have matured and were developed on the basis of the entire interdisciplinary research process, dissertation accurately informs about the course of the development of Slovene settlements and different levels of life, organization and functioning of the Slovene emigrants in Denver.

Essays show a cross section of the current situation, highlight the selected content and/or technical problems and propose solutions. The monograph represents an important contribution to the professional field of lexicography and terminography, in the same extent also in the processes of translation and interpretation, and thus in the interlingual and intercultural mediation. Especially it is necessary to highlight the contributions of eight Slovene authors which include the specific problems related to the lexicography in Slovenian language and thus places Slovene lexicography as integral part of an international scholarly debate within the chosen field.

COBISS.SI-ID: 20045064In the paper the problems of translating of certain concepts in the field of gastronomy on the Slovene ethnic territory and beyond among Slovene emigrants are treated. Shown are the key concepts of Slovene ethnic territory and cultural space in semantics and language usage in the scope cuisine. Key concepts of the translation practice within the scope of cuisine, provides a considerable challenge, which can be solved in different ways. This paper provides nine ways of translating from Slovene into other languages with special emphasize on translating into German, because it is (1) the language of the neighbors; (2) has similar non-linguistic connotations; (3) the languages shared common political space; and (4) German has a special position in the everyday language usage because of the number of tourists as well as a variety of other cultural links like bilingual territories in Austria. In various cases, this contribution shows the translation practices, suggests alternatives and comment on existing translation practices, taking into account the diversity of the text types.
