Porcelain was the most prestigious ceramics material, a symbol of power and prestige, and a proof of taste of its owner. From the archival sources we know that certain, even prestigious porcelain artefacts were in use in what is today Slovenia from late 16th century onwards. The exhibition and its catalogue showed various contexts of porcelain and its usage, thus presenting an insight into the life of our ancestors.

COBISS.SI-ID: 283474688Before starting to research a particular private library, its contents and its profile, the following questions should be answered: Are we dealing with books collected by an individual and intended for his personal research and literary work or are we dealing with a collection systematically built through many generations? Which historical documents about the library are preserved? Is it possible to identify particular books, parts of a collection or even the entire private collection of books in a particular public institution? The research of many private collections of famous individuals points out to the fact that the statement "all the books are nowadays in the museum or in the library" may sometimes be misleading. Thus the primary sources should be consulted. The author justifies this problem by results arising from researching some private history collections in Slovenia.
