COBISS.SI-ID: 33902941The thematic block of the Journal for the Critique of Science entitled "Green politics" reflect on the issues of contemporary ecological and green theoretical thinking as well as policies and practices based in local environmental conflicts. The authors reflected predominantly on the analytical power and limitations of paradigms of sustainable development, further looked the explanatory power of relatively new concept of degrowth and evaluate limits to growth and finally analyse balances between environmental systems and human societies in the context of local-global coordinates.

COBISS.SI-ID: 33824349The article addresses the issue of environmental changes and the consequently changed mobility patters or migrations of people due to environmental factors. It focuses on routing the key discussions about environmental refugees/migrants in the scientific production; the latter is marked by a two-way debate in the academic sphere, where the differences between the advocates and critics of the hypothesis about environmental refugees/migrants derive from the home disciplines of the analysts. In particular the initial discussions take place in line with the polarized relationship of environmental vs. migration analysis or the “catastrophic vs. the sceptical scenario”. Despite the indisputable starting-point that environmental changes (co-influence migrations, it is advisable to discard simplistic explanations of causality from the very beginning, and position environmental migrations in the context of the complexity and multidimensionality of migration processes, and this is the starting-point adopted in the article. Environmental refugees somehow just seem “to be there”, but they are caught between theoretical inconsistencies, which leave the field of their protection vacant, and the environmental changes taking place in their local living spaces.
