COBISS.SI-ID: 33205341This special issue emerges from an initial, exploratory screening of the connection between employability and citizenship in the field of education. This introduction briefly sets out the main dilemmas and research questions in the field, locating them within the broader framework of current trends in citizenship education and the development of (higher) education policies. It chiefly focuses on the intersection between two seemingly conflicting concepts of employability and citizenship, which has not been, is not currently, and should not always be the case as a certain contribution to this volume indicates. This introductory part, as well as the special issue as a whole, attempts to put forward conceptual foundations to provide the grounds for the two concepts to speak to each other and signal premises that endanger either the economic, but primarily the civic function of educational institutions, primarily universities. The authors warn that reducing education systems merely to their economic utility may impair their democratic potential significantly.

COBISS.SI-ID: 276641536The paper presents a comparative analysis of urban regeneration schemes in Korean and European cities and what role do traditional markets have inside these regeneration plans. More specifically, I look at what attempts have been made to economically renovate central city areas in Korean and European cities and what consequences this process might have. Revitalization projects usually aim to divert consumption services, products, information, urban settings, on the basis of which the city could become distinctively different from other cities and profit from such advantages. The paper focuses on economic heterogeneity and cultural diversity in cities and explores (a) what attempts have been made to economically revitalize “inner-city spaces” and (b) to what extent urban regeneration schemes incorporated “local urban services and (sub)cultures” into the central areas. This will be explored on the basis of comparative analysis of various urban regeneration projects in European and Korean cities.

COBISS.SI-ID: 32719965The starting point for discussions of the authors in the monograph, a special publication of the journal Teorija in Praksa has been contradictory nature of the process of globalisation. Editor, while preparing publications, did not follow the usual discussion principle of pro et contra, which still prevails in the sociological study of globalisation. The broadest starting point of all articles is paradigmatic orientation of the renowned sociologist Zdravko Mlinar, which in its approach highlights the procesual dialectic of globalisation and individuation. Eighteen articles in this publication are, in terms of disciplinary fields, highly heterogeneous. The most represented field are ecology and spatial analysis. All authors are well established domestic and foreign researchers.
