Equations for predicting dairy cow diet composition were developed on the basis of information on milk fatty acid composition and feeding practices. A dataset of 1248 bulk milk samples collected in ten European countries was used. Promising predictions were found for the proportions of fresh herbage, hay, corn silage, grass silage, total herbage and conserved forages in cow diet. Milk fatty acid composition was able to authenticate the main feeding systems, but failed to authenticate levels of concentrate supplementation and altitude origin of milk. Method is suitable for authentication of special milk production practices, like hay milk or grassland milk.

In the study, samples of dry-cured hams were scanned by NIRS and their spectra were used for prediction of maturation length applying chemometric method of neural networks (ANN). Highly accurate predictions were obtained. The results are important from the perspective of usability in control of dry-cured ham maturity, which is associated with quality.

The aim of this study was to improve and standardize cage systems for maintaining adult honey bees under in vitro laboratory conditions. We experimentally evaluated the impact of different cages, on the physiology and survival of honey bees. We identified three cages that provided a satisfactory environment for supporting bee survival. We determined that a leaking-and- dripping-proof feeder was an integral part of an effective cage system and a feeder modified from a 20 ml plastic syringe displayed the best result in providing steady food supply to bees.

Study focuses on the influence of the microclimate (light quantity, light quality and temperature) around grapes on the composition and sensory profile of Sauvignon Blanc wine. We concluded that modification of the microclimate conditions significantly affects wine composition and sensory properties.
