The aim of the study is to analyze suicide rates in adolescents aged 15-19 years in decades between 1990 and 2009 worldwide. Over the decades considered, analysis showed a declining trend in the overall suicide rate. The average suicide rate showed a decrease in Western countries which could potentially be related to the overall improvements in global health and increases in several South American countries, which might be related to economic recession and its impact on adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Authors translated the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire and applied it on adolescents twice in 2-3 months. Thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness correlated with concurrent and later suicide ideation and lifetime suicide attempt history. Authors also note other risk factors, connected to suicide attempt in adolescents, such as binge drinking, and discuss the implications of these findings.

Extensive research on impulsive suicide attempts, but lack of agreement on the use of this term indicates the need for a systematic literature review of the area. The aim of this review was to examine definitions and likely correlates of impulsive attempts. Conclusions regarding the characteristics of impulsive attempts are more consistent than those on the risk factors specific to such attempts. No risk factors were identified that uniformly related to suicide attempt impulsivity, but relationships emerged between separate criteria and specific characteristics of suicide attempters.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of school-based preventive interventions of suicidal behaviours. The interventions were: (1) Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR), a gatekeeper training module targeting teachers and other school personnel, (2) the Youth Aware of Mental Health Programme (YAM) targeting pupils, and (3) screening by professionals (ProfScreen) with referral of at-risk pupils.YAM was effective in reducing the number of suicide attempts and severe suicidal ideation in school-based adolescents.

After the railway suicide of the German national goalkeeper Robert Enke in 2009, a significant increase of railway suicides was observed nationally. This study analyses whether this incident also triggered copycat effects in other European countries. Similar to Germany, there were significant short and long-term effects for other countries. This incident may have reinforced an existing European trend of growing railway suicides.
