Firecrackers are used all over the world during New Yearʼs Eve, some festivals and to celebrate different social as well as religious occasions. Explosions of firecrackers, especially on New Yearʼs Eve, is enormous and some people are subjected to a peak sound pressure levels, which excide permissible level, and can cause loss of hearing. In many cases, firecracker explosions present a source of annoyances and stress-related diseases, so for people as well as for wild and domestic animals. In addition, they present a fire hazard and risk of personal injuries (burns of body and face, loss of sight and fingers). The number of firecracker explosions and a peak sound pressure distribution are the main parameters influencing on the place of immission, therefore some statistical properties were observed. A special emphasis is given to the joint probability density distribution of the peak sound overpressure levels, originating from a great number of firecracker random explosions. Investigations have shown that in case of the high enough number of explosions in unit time, the Rayleigh distribution tends to a Gaussian one.

COBISS.SI-ID: 13378587The second refined, extended and updated edition of the book “Technical Acoustics” contains all the necessary changes, in particular those relating to international standards and domestic legislations and directives for the measurement and evaluation of noise in working and living environment, and limit values which were changed after the first edition. It is also added a special section for students of the Faculty of architecture "Room acoustics". Concerning the first issue this second edition of the book is extensive for more than 100 pages. In addition, there are introduced a number of substantive and organizational additions and changes, in order to enable the reader logical thinking and stady, and provide the necessary support at work in this area. In doing so, I also take into account all the lessons learned both in the profession as well as my own knowledge that I have gained in my 30-year professional, research and teaching work. My students and graduates at the undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture) I sincerely thank the helpful questions and demonstrated interest in acoustics, noise control and room acoustics, because in this way they contribute to a more comprehensive, clearer and more understandable edition of this book.

COBISS.SI-ID: 271188736Women of childbearing potential and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable and deserve special attention in terms of occupational safety. Work environment can affect fertility, pregnancy and birth. Today we know many different harmful factors that can adversely affect a mother-tobe and her unborn child, and the data on the impact of certain factors on fertility is increasing. There is evidence that certain physical, chemical and biological factors are harmful for reproductive health. Today many researchers focus their work on the adverse effects of psychosocial stress.

COBISS.SI-ID: 275438592Anterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee represent an increasing problem among the active female population in comparison to their male counterparts. Besides temporary or prolonged joint dysfunction, such injuries may predispose an individual to early osteo-arthritis. Recognizing the sex differences is essential for the determination of preventive measures against these injuries. Besides anatomical and biomechanical differences, the role of hormonal oscillation during the menstrual cycle has been hypothesized. This manuscript presents a literature review based on cruciate ligament and menstrual cycle research published between 1992 and 2012. According to the experimental and epidemiologic studies, menstrual cycle was shown to be linked to anterior cruciate ligament injuries. The pre-ovulatory phase represents an increased risk, with the peak serum levels of estrogen emerging toward the end of that phase. However, the significance of menstrual cycle seems to be of lesser importance in preventive measures against female anterior cruciate injuries.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3161829Since September 1, 2014 has been introduced EU regulation of Energy labelling of vacuum cleaners. This regulation will bring transparency on market and it will established standard based test methods which will lead to comparable performance values Key indicators will help consumers to make a better decision when they purchase new appliances. Limited maximal power of appliance will save energy and ensure optimal performance and minimal emitted noise levels. Vacuum cleaner suction units are consequently forced to be further improved regarding efficiency and noise levels. Activities to improve the cleaning performance of vacuum cleaner appliances at low electric powers are shown in the article.
