Process bases on the infiltration of metal melt in the pores of ceramic foam. Method of casting, sizing of mould, preheating of ceramic foam or mould, pouring temperature, use of insulating cover and vibrating enable complete filing the pores with metal. For manufacturing of composite plates the gravity casting and vibrating of total system during casting and solidification is used. Such composite plates are used in automotive, aircraft and military industry because composite plates have good mechanical properties, high break-through strength at low density and resistance to cutting.

COBISS.SI-ID: 17146902The study of the wear of a tribological pair of soft and heated metals in contact with a hard counter body is very demanding. The main difficulty with such studies is the deficiency of reliable experimental data due to the problem of maintaining the prescribed contact pressures for a long time between hot softer metal and hard body. A very important tribological system that belongs to this group of demanding systems is the aluminium hot extrusion, where temperatures of billets lie in the range 450-500ºC, the contact pressure is up to 30 MPa and the sliding velocity in the range 5-100 m/min. In order to gain a deeper insight into the wear behavior in aluminium hot extrusion, laboratory wear tests on nitrided samples at various contact pressures were carried out. The description of experimental setup and main characteristics of the degradation progress of the tested surfaces are presented.
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 1043550The development of the methodology for calculation of phase equilibria for multi-component systems has been presented together with connection with experimental techniques for determination of parameters needed to perform such calculations. Usefulness of the approach has been demonstrated by various practical and industrial relevant examples.
F.05 Ability to launch new technological development cycle
COBISS.SI-ID: 1082974New P/M Al-special matrix composite made from almost pure Al with average grain size of 1μm and with oxides on grains surfaces was developed. It was found that materials exhibit poor hot workability for strain rates 0.1 s-1 and lower, but at higher strain rates cracks free samples were obtained after hot deformation at all temperatures considered. Obtained values of tensile strength are up to 3 times higher than those usually found in conventionally produced aluminium alloy with similar chemical composition (e.g. AA1050).
