Optically pumped magnetometers, using vapour of alkaline metals, can today achieve the sensitivity of a few tens of fT and their theoretical sensitivity is even better than sensitivity of SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) magnetometer. The principles of the optically pumped magnetometer with potassium (K) atoms vapour will be presented. Followed by the applications of such magnetometer in the low frequency RF spectroscopy (14N NQR), as well as in quasi DC measurements of stimulated activity of audio cortex.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 17556569Research program member Vitomir Štruc organized a scientific workshop in 2015 together with several other established researchers from the field of biometrics, i.e., Bir Bhanu – University of California, Riverside, USA; Abdenour Hadid - University of Oulu, Finland; Qiang Ji - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA; Marko Nixon – University of Southampton, UK. The workshop called »Biometrics in the Wild 2015« was organized as part of IEEE Face and Gesture 2015 and focused on biometric recognition in unconstrained environments. It attracted a significant audience and was also supported by the Slovenian Society for Patter Recognition and COST Action IC 1106. The proceedings of the even are available from IEEE Xplore.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 11014484Research program member Vitomir Štruc served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana in the United States from the end of June until the beginning of October of 2015. During his visit he joined the Computer Science Department of the univeristy and collaborated with Computer Vision Research Laboratory lead by professors Kevin Bowyer, Patrick Flynn and Walter Scheirer. Vitomir contributed several lectures to the biometric course of the university and held a talk during the seminar of the universities (computer science) PhD program. The visit established research ties between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Ljubljana and resulted in an on-going collaboration.
B.05 Guest lecturer at an institute/university
COBISS.SI-ID: 11161172Research program member Vitomir Štruc serves as a guest editor (since September 2015) for a special issue of the Image and Vision Computing journal, which is ranked by Thomson Reuters into the A1 catefgory of SCI indexed journals (IF for 2014: 1.587). The special issue will present the best reviewed papers from the 2015 edition of the IEEE Face and Gesture Conference and is scheduled for publication in the second half of 2016.

Research program member Simon Dobrišek has participated in the design and development of a visual sensory system for contactless, non‐intrusive detection of distracted driving. The system is based on the use of a camera and computer vision methods that automatically detect the position of the hands while driving. The system was developed in collaboration with the he Machine Vision Laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, and on the initiative of the start-up company Tibopo Ltd., which was awarded for this system in May 2015 as the "Slovenian start-up of the year 2015".
