Fourteen thematic projects were presented in the Botanical Garden of the University of Maribor. The leading theme was experiencing and preservation of the environment, where the energy circulates between the living world, the Earth, water and ambient air. Each project has the oven message and raises the awareness about the importance of sustainable development. The nooks are made of reused materials, which got a new function.

COBISS.SI-ID: 17929750The lecture presents the problem related to the determination of building shape and its influence on energy demand in different climatic regions. Designing timber-frame houses offers numerous possibilities of creating structures with a highly attractive shape. Nevertheless, some of the existing studies prove that an attractive and dynamic building design usually results in increased energy demand. The main aim of the lecture is to present the design solutions where the energy demand increase could be avoided by selecting the appropriate size of the glazing surface in the south façade. It is presented for certain climatic regions that it is possible to design buildings with higher shape factor on account of sufficient amount of solar gains. Nevertheless, the results show a less encouraging outcome for the locations with lower solar radiation, where the selection of compact building shape with low thermal envelope surface is most appropriate.

COBISS.SI-ID: 18287638This publication reflects the authors' presentation at the conference "The Renaissance of wooden buildings," which was held on 20.11.2014 UM FG in cooperation with the agency Lotos and was devoted to the popularisation of wooden construction. The design of energy efficient buildings is a complex process involving multiple levels of planning and depends on many factors, such as climatic conditions, microlocation, the choice of the structural system, the type of construction materials, orientation of the building as well as a number of strategies passive operation of the building. This paper presents the possibility of designing timber-glass houses with a dynamic layout shape for climatic areas of Slovenia.

COBISS.SI-ID: 18309398Motorways closures or narrowing of the carriageways are the result of urgent maintenance works (resurfacing, mowing grass, changing of security barriers, signposting, traffic signs, road marking ...). The fact is that all this work should be done under traffic loads and in the ''ideal time'', when traffic loads are smallest. The duration of motorway closure depends on the type of renovation work. The fact is that each motorway closure results in congestions and queues and cause a loss of time and wasting of fuel of participants. This situation leads to disagreements and accusations. In fact, at the moment there are several motorway closures due to renovation work, which caused accusations of end-users.

COBISS.SI-ID: 18113558Systems for automatic vehicles counting and classification in the traffic flow by using video-image material coming more and more important, such as: real-time monitoring and non-invasive and unobtrusive counting. A group of students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Maribor were created an application for real-time, non-invasive and unobtrusive counting and classification of vehicles in the traffic flow. The application has the following advantages: fast performance, ability to use it in roundabouts traffic analysis and high accuracy of counting and classification of vehicles (ranges between 90 and 98%). Application, called POVIDACO, was established as a platform for further development of methods for counting traffic, as well as to develop new techniques in the field of image processing and computer vision.
