Within the context of efforts in the performance of construction of prefabricated timber buildings, the company Marles house Maribor decidet to participate with the University of Maribor, Faculty of Engineering decided in the project "Development of timber passive house Marles". The project was aiming at development of innovative model of passive timber house taking into account the implementation of scientific research results and professional experience from previous workshops as well. In the first phase of the workshop five different house types were developed from which experts from the university and company selected the optimal design of the passive residential house of contemporary look, designed by the students of architecture. The selected house was further in the common work with students of civil engineering and mentors from the university developed to the stage of the project for implementation with analyzes of energy efficiency, lighting , thermal bridges and static stability. Architecture of the winning house is designed in a way that it is most consistent with the Slovenian typology of houses and at the same time meets the requirements and needs of the modern user. In the house sustainable materials are used. The design of the house allows the exploitation of renewable energy sources and achieves a high energy efficiency, which has a positive impact on the achievement of higher living comfort.

Opening of the exhibition "Lessons on timber construction" took place on 24th of January 2013 in the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia in Ljubljana. The exhibition presented the results of study workshops in the field of timber construction, which have been implemented as interdisciplinary projects of the Chair of architecture and the Chair of building structures, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Maribor. The main aim of the exhibition was to present the possible teamwork approaches through integration of students of architecture and students of civil engineering, which was guided by academic and professional mentors. Additionally, it showed the direct implementation of the latest research results into practice by combination of timber and glass, which were previously neglected as construction materials. With suitable technological development and appropriate use, they are nowadays becoming increasingly important materials in contemporary construction. Exhibited workshop projects are the following: - "View of the city - Workshop Wooden lookout towers" - "Energy-efficient wooden buildings - Podlehnik" - "Development of passive residential houses Marles" Presented workshops vary significantly from each other, demonstrating completely different designs, from the wooden lookout towers and multi-purpose municipal buildings to the latest trends in the design of prefabricated single-family houses. The exhibition was financially supported by the Association of wood and furniture industry of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

COBISS.SI-ID: 16611094The global analysis and the dimensioning of a steel frame of sealing beams on power-plant Dravograd was performed for company Dravske elektrarne Maribor. The structure was produced in 1939 and last used during the World War II during construction of the plant. Static system of the structure is a space frame/truss. The material of structure and rivets was not known. The non-linear analysis was performed for two materials: St 37 and St 52. Particular attention was paid to the calculation of the friction force between the frame and sealing beams. The friction force decreases the load of structure weight and water. Nevertheless, we have found that the capacity of the steel frame was more than four-times exceeded due to a catastrophic high water, the resistance of connections more than seven-times.

COBISS.SI-ID: 16898070Participation in the course "Entwerfen 3" (eng.: "Design 3") , which is in the teaching process at the University of Maribor , Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture program equivalent to the course "Studio 3". The content of the course and task in the winter semester 2013/14: Object based acquisition of basic knowledge of urban planning, which is gradually obtained through the planning process, based on the project task. The main attention is focused on the functional organization of the treated area and the ability to place building structures in the context of the natural and urban environment, following the need for the quality of built environment and open space. The planning process includes consideration of the basic conditions for a given urban area, planning of transport networks and main accesses. Project task for "Entwerfen 3" in the winter semester of 2013/14 covers the redesign of former military area (64.000 m2) in Maribor in Tabor region with the aim of planning residential neighborhood. Beginning with the lecture of Maribor students received the knowledge of the wider context of the city with a focus on urban development. An excursion to Maribor gave basis to the students for the observation and analysis of wider and narrow project area. Further work included designing of residential neighborhood with the following starting points: the building density of 1.2, predominantly 2 -room (55-70 m2) and 3 -room (80-90 m2) apartments, storage for bicycles and strollers, car park outdoors 0.2 p/apartment , parking in the garage 1 p/apartment, organization of accesses, open spaces , walking paths, cycling paths and roads. Work of the visiting lecturer: Seminar, short lectures and presentations to provide appropriate guidance and mentoring to students for the purpose of designing a residential area.

City traffic areas or urban roads means a particular field of research and in-depth treatments, especially in recent decades. Problems of traffic in urban areas can be briefly defined as follows: In small urban areas a large number of different types of participants are in contacts (crossing, merging, diverging, viewings), whose interests and needs are in conflict. Accordingly, it is necessary to spend a lot of effort in the design, planning and implementing process, that these areas will enable safe, comfortable, smooth and economical conduct of traffic in urban areas.
