Acta Biologica Slovenica (former Biološki vestnik) is a Slovene scientific journal, which has been publishing for more than half of the century. It publishes peer-reviewed papers from the field of biology twice a year. Biological library distributes the journal to 188 institutions in Slovenia and worldwide, receiving other scientific journals in exchange.

COBISS.SI-ID: 68526592The monograph is one out of three works [276989440, 278704896], published in the past period, discussing specimens with special features in Slovenian flora. It discusses the phenomenon of occurrence of white flowers in different taxa, which generally appear in colours other than white. Presented plants originate from different regions of Slovenia. The study showed that white flowering specimen are often weaker in comparison to coloured ones. White-flowering specimens are potentially interesting for further selection of seedlings for horticultural purposes.

COBISS.SI-ID: 276868352One of the key actions identified by the Water Framework Directive (WFD; 2000/60/EC) is to develop ecological assessment tools and carry out the European intercalibration (IC) exercise. The aim of the Intercalibration is to ensure that the values, assigned by each Member State to the good ecological class boundaries, are consistent with the Directive’s generic description of these boundaries and comparable to the boundaries proposed by other MS. In total, 83 lake assessment methods were submitted for the 2nd phase of the WFD intercalibration (2008- 2012) and 62 were intercalibrated and included in the EC Decision on Intercalibration (EC 2013). The intercalibration was carried out in the 13 Lake Geographical Intercalibration Groups according to the ecoregion and biological quality element. In this report, we describe how the intercalibration exercise has been carried out in the Alpine Lake Macrophyte group.

COBISS.SI-ID: 31365337We organized a final meeting of the COST Action UV4growth "UV-B radiation: A specific regulator of Plant Growth and Food Quality in a Changing Climate", where we hosted 105 participants from 25 countries. The purpose of the meeting was to present the results of the research network members UV4Growth and research area as a whole, with an emphasis on the positive effects of UV-B radiation. The meeting included lectures from the fields of: (1) the influence of UV-B on genome level, (2) the effects of UV-B on metabolic processes, (3) the responses of organisms to UV-B and (4) UV-B and climate change. Additional sections included the technological approaches in the field of UV research and on dissemination knowledge of results, as well as on approaches to training and education. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between the various research laboratories in Europe and worldwide, as well as research laboratories and industry. We have published a book of abstracts and edited a special issue of the scientific journal Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, dedicated to UV radiation and plants.

COBISS.SI-ID: 272787712The textbook emphasizes the holistic approach to ecosystems, which had been introduced by E. P. Odum. Holistic approach is the basis for effective management of natural resources and ecosystems and for long-term preservation of ecosystem services. The textbook was written for students, who take the classes in Ecology, as a supplement to other scientific fields or as a basis for further deepening of knowledge.
