Organization and leading of the Section of Sociology of Science at the annual meeting of the Slovenian Sociological Society, Bohinj, October 24 - 26, 2014. There were seven presentations of Slovenian researchers, also our research group. The abstracts of their talks are published in the book of the programme and abstracts.

The collaboration structures and dynamics of the complete co-authorship network of all Slovenian researchers in the period from 1986 to 2010 were studied to identify the main factors driving collaboration and the main differences in the collaboration behaviour across scientific fields and disciplines. Two approaches for modelling network dynamics were combined: the small world model and the mechanism of preferential attachment. One dimension of the small world was measured by its clustering level and the preferential attachment was operationalized through collaboration of researchers within and across disciplines, and scientific excellency. For studying the effects of clustering level and preferential attachement for new co-authorship ties, stochastic actor based modelling on network dynamics was used. The complete longitudinal co-authorship networks for all six scientific areas and 72 scientific disciplines for 1996-2010 were analyzed. While the presence of clustering level was confirmed, preferential attachment is far more complex than the one autonomous mechanism claim.

COBISS.SI-ID: 33092957In today's national R&D and innovation policies in many European countries, one main challenge is the question of how to define them in the context of demand towards the increasingly participatory and inclusive democratic governance of complex matters of the new emerging technologies. Traditional decisionist models (it is assumed that the exclusive responsibility should be in the hands of politicans) as well as technocratic models (it is assumed that policy decisions should be taken by experts and supported mainly or solely by bureaucrats) are now widely seen as obsolete approaches. There is need to establish new forms of cooperation and communication, in which ordinary citizens and a wide variety of stakeholders will participate by creation of common technological strategies and models of technological governance. In the contribution, there are presented some issues of the establishment of this kind of participative models. The emphasise is on the situation in Slovenia as small states which is still armed with limited formal mechanisms for coordinating the interests of different social actors.
