Biosecurity protocols protect a population of pigs against the introduction and spread of pathogens. Biosecurity measures should be used to avoid the entry of pathogens into a herd or farm (external biosecurity) and to prevent the spread of disease to uninfected animals within a herd or farm, when the pathogen is already present (internal biosecurity) and to prevent the spread of pathogens already present on farm to another population of animals.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3797114Prevention of the diseases or infections, reduction of negative effects of diseases and eradication programs can be achieved by vaccinations. Vaccination provides passive or active immunity. Passive immunity means transfer of antibodies from immune to naïve animal which results in protection against specific pathogenic microorganism. Maternal antibodies are primary source of passive immunity. Active immunity is development of specific antibodies against specific pathogen as a result of contact with pathogen or vaccination. Aim of vaccination is stimulation of immune response which will protect animal from infection and their consequences. On the market there are killed or attenuated vaccines both of them having advantages or disadvantages.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3762298The aim of the paper was to present the meaning and implementation of formation of sow groups after weaning, which is a prerequisite for the implementation of actions to improve animal welfare. It is often considered that animal welfare and economy of farming stand in conflict. In the article it is emphasized that animals with better living conditions, achieve better production results, and so the farmer getting more benefit. The easiest way to form a group is to implement batch farrowing, with the consideration of additional recommendations, which we have mentioned in the article.
