In this study, the relationships among and the taxonomic status of three closely related parasitic wasps that are widely used as biological control agents of cereal aphids, Aphidius uzbekistanicus Luzhetzki, A. rhopalosiphi De Stefani Perez and A. avenaphis (Fitch), were examined. Genetic divergence at an average of 6% has been recorded using the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase I (COI) barcoding region between A. uzbekistanicus and A. rhopalosiphi, meanwhile identical mtCOI gene sequences were recorded in A. uzbekistanicus specimens that originated from Eurasia and in the North American species A. avenaphis. The geometric morphometric analysis of stigma shape and the use of morphological characters such as stigma shape and flagellomere 1 color can be used as valid method for discrimination between wasp species.

The current study was conducted to obtain more information on the specificity and variation of the volatile compounds, which are released from the root system of different lines and hybrids of Zea mays plants. European (12 genotypes) and North American (5 genotypes) genetic material was included (15 maize hybrids and 2 maize inbreds). The results of our study have shown that roots of European and American maize genotypes secrete different relative amounts of linalool, α-caryophyllene and β-caryophyllene, which depend on genotype and on the pretreatment of the roots (various mechanical damages).

The aim of the study was to determine the impact of pre-sowing seed treatment on wheat seed infection and contamination of produced grains from the field trial at the Biotechnical faculty (BF) and contamination of crop samples from Slovene farms with conventional and organic type of production. Seed treatment with fungicides had a greater influence on improving the health status of produced grain, compared to the preparations allowed in organic farming.
