The paper presents the rates of potential contribution of agriculture to the burdening of the environment with nitrogen and phosphorus compared to other polluters (industry, population, municipal wastewater treatment plants) in the catchment areas of the underground water body Mura basin and three reservoirs: Perniško jezero, Ledavsko jezero and Gajševsko jezero in the years 2007 and 2010. In the all catchment areas agriculture contributed the largest share of nutrients to the environment, which is not surprising, because in this part of Slovenia agriculture is the dominant sector, while the population density is relatively low and there is also relatively low number of industrial plants. Nutrient loads in all studied areas decreased in 2010 compared to 2007. In the area of the Mura basin this was consequence of lower nutrient balance in agriculture, greater involvement of citizens in municipal wastewater treatment plants and reduced intake of nutrients from industry. At the catchment areas of the three reservoirs there were no identified major industrial plants and sewage treatment plants. Reduced intake of nutrients in these areas could be in the year 2010 attributable to decreased nutrient balance in agriculture.
