In the research paper we present for the first time that degree of crystalline fraction in polymers is an important parameter which has to be considered during plasma modification, as it affects the final outcome of modification as well as on the biological response. This finding is important when artificial vascular grafts are modified by plasma treatment in order to gain improved hemocompatible properties. In the paper the research based on the ageing of plasma treated surfaces with different degree of crysalinity is also presented. It is shown that crystallinity of polymers has an effect on the ageing of plasma treated surfaces.

Effects of plasma modification on the ageing of polymeric surfaces used for vascular implants are presented. The effect of ageing of modified surfaces was mainly studied in terms of chemical modification and effects on the adhesion and activation of platelets. The results clearly showed that ageing of plasma treated surfaces is highly influenced by the storage conditions.
