Slovenia is characterized by a mixture of complex environmental systems that provide it with an exceptional diversity and natural beauty, but also with a great number of natural disasters. Man-made disasters are on the rise because of economic development that has led to increasingly frequent and violent interventions in natural environment. The paper describes some characteristics of these disasters, remote sensing techniques and technology for their observation in Slovenia, rapid mapping capabilities in Slovenia and its system of civil protection and disaster relief.

The paper addresses different advanced visualization methods, their specifics, advantages, and weaknesses in the context of archaeological interpretation of several types of historical landscape features.
