The paper presents comparison of two case areas from the Mediterranean region. Typical of the Mediterranean world, and of both studied cases as well, are terraced slopes. We compared land tenure of villages Krkavče, located within Koper Hills, and Ostrožno Brdo in Brkini Hills, where, due to higher altitude, grapevine no longer grows but fruit-growing dominates. In addition to land use analysis for the years 1819 and 2012, also the landforms have been analysed.
The article discusses the geographical notions of the landscape in Slovenian Istria produced by rhetorical figures. It is based on the premise that figurative language is a mechanism that contributes to the cognitive and representational processes that take place in the literary and non-literary contexts, and is thus suitable for studying the perception and formation of one's relationship to the landscape.

The purpose of the research is to determine whether landscape within landscape-ecological types truly responses to human interference similarly and how these responses demonstrate in land cover differences. It tries to clarify groups of deviations and their causes. Land cover layer was accomplished by classifying Landsat satellite imagery with nearest neighbour algorithm into seven categories. Several techniques and auxiliary data, such as digital elevation model, digital orthophoto and existing land use maps, were used to achieve best result. Vector layer of landscape-ecological types was made anew with improved semantic and geometric characteristics, to conform to analyses in geographic information systems.
