In in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles ovarian stimulation is established by gonadotropins in combination with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists or antagonists, that prevent premature ovulation. We applied Affymetrix gene expression profiling in cumulus cells (CC) of different maturation stage oocytes retrieved from patients receiving recombinant gonadotropin in combination of GnRH agonists or GnRH antagonists. We performed two analysis: first analysis between CC of metaphase of immature metaphase I (MI) and mature metaphase II (MII) oocytes was performed and 359 genes was differentially expressed. Second, the analysis between the two GnRH analogues was performed, where no differentially expressed genes was observed at the whole transcriptome level. Further analysis upon 359 differentially genes was performed, especially regarding anti Müllerian hormone receptor 2 (AMHR2), follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC) and serine protease inhibitor E2 (SERPINE2). The results of this study goes well along with recent findings of meta analysis on GnRH agonists and GnRH antagonists, where this two analogues are proved to be equally effective. In addition, we propose VEGFC as a new potential biomarker of oocyte maturity.
