The aim of the investigation was to determine and compare the superplastic properties of the Al-Mg-Mn alloy with Sc and Zr additions. The investigated alloys were processed to form sheets by conventional hot and cold rolling. The result showed that the alloy with about 0,4% Sc exhibited a high superplastic ductility across a wide temperature range and strain rates up to 1x10-2s-1. The alloy with about 0,2 %Zr exhibited lower superplastic ductility at similar working conditions.

FSW of 4 mm thick casting aluminium alloy AlSi12 in butt joint was done. A classical tool was used with tilt angle 2°, tool rotation from 235 - 1180 rev/min, welding speed 71 – 450 mm/min and joint gap width 0 – 0.5 mm. Analysis of microstructure, hardness measurement and tensile test of FSW welds were done. A set of welding parameters was determined where high quality weld are obtained.

A comprehensive research of Friction Stir Welding of 4 mm thick aluminium alloy (AlMg4.5Mn) for forming was done. A vast variety of process parameters was tested according to the plan of experiments at constant 2° tilt angle. Specialy designed tensile test specimens were sectioned in the direction of welding and perpendicular to welding. The microstructure was prepared for observation on a light microscope under the polarised light source. A Vickers micro-hardens was measured. The results show the influence of FSW process parameters on the formation of microstructure and mechanical properties.
