This paper deals with the impact of welding parameters on the weldability of difficult to weld aluminum alloys for casting and dissimilar welding of aluminum alloys for casting with the alloys for forming. These materials are very attractive in the manufacture of heaters and/or refrigerators, which can among other things be used in hybrid vehicles for cooling of electronics. Fusion welding of these alloys in industrial conditions is almost impossible due to problems with the spraying, excessive product deformations and joint leakage due to the presence of the lubricants, which are causing the melt ejection. Results are important for all partners since the tools and technology for FSW of these metals is developed. The MLM d.d. and TKC d.o.o. have acquired knowledge for joining of these materials, the company Impol 2000 d.d., as a manufacturer of these materials, gain the possibility to increase sales of these products.
F.10 Improvements to an existing technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 12186395The project partner company Impol 2000 d.d., Slovenian Bistrica manufactures sheet metal and rolled tapes from various aluminum alloys including the types of alloys Al-Mg. These alloys are promising materials for sheet metal bodywork of road and rail vehicles. Superplastic properties of these alloys are achieved through modified alloying composition and thermo mechanical processes such as FSP, which further improves formability of complete part or only local sheet metal formability. This is especially useful when forming complicated shape products. From this perspective, the results are interesting for co-financier of the project. The survey results are interesting also for the company TKC d.o.o., which provides services of joining and processing of aluminium alloys on the market.
F.14 Improvements to existing production methods and tools or processes
COBISS.SI-ID: 12167963Student who finished PhD of FSW aluminum alloys for casting employed at the Institute for casting and heat treatment. The institute is engaged in providing services in the field of development of new products for the foundry industry (composite cladding materials, heat exchangers), simulation of casting processes, the development of composite castings and assemblies, and services in the field of heat treatment. Knowledge, skills and experience, which he gained in the doctoral education, will be usefully used in his work at the institute.
