Defect, that are presented in thin films made by PVD deposition systems, can decisively reduce their protective properties, especially corrosion protections. We explain the origin of the defects and base on this, established that the cleaning procedure is very important to reduce the defect density on minimum.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25392423Three types (combination of sp2 and sp3 bonds) of DLC coatings were prepared on stainless steel substrates. The DLC has amorphous structure of thickness 1.5 um. The combination of sp2 and sp3 bonds plays role in the hardness, adhesion, porosity and corrosion properties. The enhancing of sp3 amount increases the hardness, but lowers the adhesion. Corrosion examination showed very good stability of the all three types of DLC coating in Hanks solution as a corrosion media.
