The article looks into theory of solidarity from the perspective of migration studies. The authors use a selection of case studies to lay basis for the development of new theory of transnational and transhistorical research of models of solidarity which take into account also the image of the immigrant other and his/her fate in the host country. The scientific achievement is in the conceptualization of the function of the immigrant in the formation of postnational social relations and just social contract.

This article examines the question of individual and citizen's rights in the contexts of migration and the tendency to develop a more participatory and inclusive society. It is based on theoretical work on young democracies as well as empirical research of multicultural residents in Slovenia. The research was carried out by the method of dialogic inquiry which gives voice to the disepowered and people on the margins.
