The article sets the stage for the forthcoming research and explains its cultural background. The author thus discusses the hiatus in art, its institutions and theoretic reflections arising from, or concerned with, the former or present “East” and the current West. He points out that this proces is a dynamic one, wherein the “East” is continuously transformed and transposed further east. Within this framework the author discusses the transformation of concepts such as modernism, postmodernism, and the contemporary.

The article analyses two of Kant's works, Groundwork of the Methaphysic of Morals and Critique of Practical Reason. It sets out from the assumption that Kant's practical philosophy can be understood as a theory of a subjectified action. This can be defined as an action where the individuum is not subjected solely to the “service of goods” or empirical-pathological interests. The possibility of such reading can at the same time show that Kant's moral philosophy avoids the dilemma between an “abstract universalism” and the “rights of the particular”.
