The book contains six papers, made as a part of EU project entitled Awakened Cultural Heritage. The contributions are devoted to the history of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Era in the Slovenian region of Bela krajina and neighbouring Croatian Pokolpje, which in the past in many ways shared a common destiny. In spite of the fact, that Bela krajina was a part of the Holy Roman Empire, whereas neighbouring Croatian territory was a part of Hungarian kingdom, the important noble families of the region had extensive possesions on both sides of the border. In the 17th and 18th centuries the population of Bela krajina, because of intense cultural relations with neighbouring territory, even considered themselves as Croatians.

On the basis of analisys of sources from Slovenian and foreign archives the monography presents the latest knowledge on the history of two buldings in the town of Krško. The first one is the real house where the famous Carniolan polyhistor J. W. Valvasor lived, the second one is the wrong one that until recently was considered his home. With considerable certainty we can now also answer the question, why a century and a half ago the historical mistake was made.
