The research tried to use different tipes of sources about the name of inhabitants, their language and identities. It was assertained, that the Croatian linguonym and ethonym were in the 17th and 18th centuries present in three border regions of Slovenian ethnic area (Bela krajina, Prekmurje and Prlekija), mainly due to geographical closeness and cultural reasons – strong influence of kajkav-Croatian literary language on the eastern Slovenian area in the 18th century. Croatian name rooted itself the strongest in the region of Bela krajina, which was geographically the closest to original medieval Croatia, from where it also received strong imigration during the turbulent 16th century.
