»Slovenian Historical Atlas« is the first collection of historical maps presenting the Slovenian territory from Prehistoric Times to the 21st Century from Prehistoric to Modern Times. Five historians and a cartographer worked on it for almost a decade, having in mind both the professional and the broader public interests. With the atlas, the historiographical gap has been filled that separated Slovenia from other European (and non-European) countries for a long time. Boris Golec is the author of the chapters dealing with the period 1500–1848 (pp. 105–137).

COBISS.SI-ID: 256791808Between the 23rd and 24th November 2011 Miha Preinfalk organised a symposium with the title “Understanding a castle – the role and importance of castles in the Slovenian history”. More than 20 acknowledged Slovenian scientists and researchers took part at the symposium and they showed from different angles different roles that castles used to have in the past. In this way the symposium contributed significantly to a better understanding of the Slovenian castle heritage and also to more systematic preservation and presentation of the castles in Slovenia. Along with the symposium an exhibition with the same title was organised; it was exposed in the Atrij ZRC SAZU between the 22nd November and 1st December 2011.

The paper outlined the concepts and methods, used for production of the digital Register of Slovenian early modern manuscripts (http://ezb.ijs.si/nrss/). Currently, the Register comprises manuscript descriptions of one hundred mss. and cca. 7.000 pages of digital facsimiles. On the basis of these materials which are publicly available in the Register, the persistence of manuscript culture was demonstrated, existing in Slovenian lands simultaneously with the printed book culture until the early 19th century. The paper also gave a technical account of detailed TEI-encoded mss. descriptions and of digital repository software, used for presentation and search across the materials. The Register offers valuable ms. material for research on Slovenian Humanist writers.
