The applicative results obtained from a study on the fungus of the Colletotrichum genus were presented at 3rd Slovenian Fruit Growing congress with International Participation. The emphasis was on the presentation of the disease and severity of infection regarding fruit quality and yield. C. simmondsii caused a decrease in sucrose and an increase in fructose and glucose in strawberry fruit. Moreover, a significant decrease in malic acid was recorded in infected fruit. 12 forms of ellagic acid, 9 flavanols and 8 flavonols were detected in strawberry runners and 9 forms of ellagic acid, 6 flavanols, 7 flavonols and 4 anthocyanins in strawberry fruit. The changes in phenolic profile were evaluated from the beginning of the infection and results indicated that even at an early stage of infection the phenolic modifications occur. Specifically in fruit, ellagic acids, flavanols and anthocyanins significantly increased and flavonols decreased with the progression of infection. In infected runners, ellagic acid forms and procyanidins generally decreased and flavonols increased.

Topics are different every year and include protection of strawberry plantations against pests and diseases, selection of cultivars according to technology and market trends, the impact of environment and soil on strawberry cultivation, plant biology and nutritional importance of strawberries; marketing and mechanization. The conference in 2012 was intended to inform participants on the production of healthy fruits, environmental protection and health issues related to the implementation of various technological measures, in particular the implementation of plant protection and sprayings. The lecture entitled 'The source of resistance to different stress factors in strawberry' educates the growers and consultants on the control options against strawberry pests and diseases with a variety of technological measures such as the use of tunnels which protect plants against infection with anthracnose and grey mold. Resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors largely depends on the knowledge and selection of appropriate cultivars and products for enhancement of plant resistance.
