In this oral presentation, accompanied by the abstract publication, a recent data generated on the Stefin B knock-out in Tg(MMTV-PyMT) breast cancer model was presented. As such, a description of the impact of Stefin B on the delayed tumor progression was summarized and a possible mechanism through increased sensitization of tumor cells to hypoxia upon depletion of Stefin B was proposed.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25636647In this lecture, the project leader O. Vasiljeva presented an overview of importance of cysteine cathepsins and their inhibitors in tumor progression. Moreover, the development of targeted drug delivery systems could improve bio-availability and targeting of cysteine cathepsins inhibitors, thus, resulting in the efficient inhibition of cysteine cathepsins and significant tumor size reduction. These data additionally support the role of cysteine cathepsins in tumor progression and, thus, their endogenous inhibitors as an important regulators of their activity.
