Prof. Gregor Serša was a superviosr of PhD thesis of a young research fellow Lara Prosen. In 2014, Lara Prosen successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled The effect of magnetofection with plasmid DNA encoding shRNA against Mcam of endothelial and proliferation of melanoma murine cells in vitro. The main topic of her thesis was the optimization of the synthesis of superparamagnetic iron-oxide nanoparticles, coated with the anionic polymer polyacrylic acid, and functionalized with a cationic polymer polyethyleneimine for the use in magnetofection. The efficeincy and antitumor effect of magnetofection with the prepared therapeutic plasmid encoding shRNA against Mcam gene were determined in cells in vitro and tumors in vivo.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1742203Prof. Gregor Sersa in prof. Maja Cemazar were co-organizer of the 7th conference on experimental and translational oncology and editors of Book of abstracts of the 7th Conference on experimental and translational oncology. The conference brings together Slovenian scientists working in this field. The conference is also attended by a large number of foreign lecturers.

COBISS.SI-ID: 266440192The LEA “EBAM” consists of the following teams: • Physical Vectorology team of the Laboratory of Vectorology and Antitumor Therapies (VAT), UMR 8203 (CNRS – Institut Gustave Roussy – Université Paris Sud 11), directed by Dr Lluis M. MIR; • Cell Biophysics team of the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Structural Biology (IPBS), UMR 5089 (CNRS – and University of Toulouse III) directed by Pr. JeanPhilippe GIRARD; • Theoretical Chemistry and Biochemistry team of the Laboratory of Structure and Reactivity of the Complex Molecular Systems (SRSMC), UMR 7565 (CNRS and University HenriPoincaré, Nancy I) directed by Pr. Yves FORT; • Bioelectrophotonics group of the Laboratory XLIM (XLIM), UMR 6172 (CNRS; and University of Limoges), directed by Dr Dominique CROS; • Department of Biomedical Engineering (LBK) Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, directed by Pr Damijan MIKLAVCIC; • Department of Experimental Oncology (EON) of the Institute of Oncology, Ljubljana, directed by Pr Gregor SERSA. The main aim of the LEA to enhance our understanding on the mechanisms of classical electropermeabilization, contribute to a better and safer implementation of the electropermeabilizationbased applications, and to the development of new applications, to develop new approaches like treatment planning in existing applications, such as antitumor electrochemotherapy and in vivo gene transfer for therapeutic purposes and to isseminate the knowledge and the applications in the scientific community and in the society.
