The abstract presented the frequency of drug interactions with cancer systemic therapy and methods employed at the University Clinic Golnik to prevent clinical consequences of drug interactions. By the review of 4 different sources of information, 1416 potential drug interactions were recorded in 223 lung cancer patients. Anti-cancer drugs were involved in only 20 % of the recorded interactions, the remaining concerning supportive care drugs, e.g. antiemetics. Important discrepancies among the reviewed sources were noted. While reviewing drug interactions with systemic cancer therapy in routine clinical practice, pharmacists considered only 52 of the 1416 recorded interactions as clinically relevant. Interactions with anti-cancer drugs and those that affect the pharmacokinetics and –dynamics o fanti-cancer agents were more frequently recognised as important and measure for their avoidance were proposed.
