Prof. dr. Tanja Čufer was in 2006 elected to the General board of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). EORTC is the biggest European, independent academic association in the field of clinical cancer research. Cooperation in leading and steering the work of this institution demands a high amount of experience and knowledge in the field of clinical and basic cancer research and is entrusted only to the best European researchers. Inclusion among base institutions and membership in the network of these institutions offers very good grounds for further fruitful research work in the field of oncology both abroad and at home. Between 2009 and 2012 she was also elected as a chairperson of EORTC – Breast Cancer Group.

In 2011 Prof. Dr. Tanja Cufer was elected as the chair of ASCO IAC (2011-2012). Cooperation in leading and steering the work of this institution demands a high amount of experience and knowledge in the field of clinical and basic cancer research and is entrusted only to well-esteemed international researchers and oncologists. During her chairmanship a large step forward was made in the field of internationalizing clinical research within the international oncology environment. The endeavour started by thoroughly studying different barriers and challenges in the field of international research (see publication below), followed by several activities aimed at improving its state. One of these activities was the organisation and conduct of several courses on clinical research conduct (ICTW courses) in Eastern Europe, Asia and South America.

Prof. Dr. Tanja Čufer was a co-chair at the international conference on advanced breast cancer (ABC2) held in Lisbon in 2013. The aim of this important conference, which is organized biannually by the ESO (European School of Oncology) and ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) is to provide a thorough overview of the scientific research achievements and publications in the field of advanced breast cancer as well as to develop evidence based data (EBD) grounded guidelines for worldwide breast cancer care. The development of such guidelines demands an in depth understanding and knowledge of literature, with the main principles for creating being identical in all cancers, including lung cancer.
B.02 Presiding over the programming board of a conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 37605893In 2014, Prof. Tanja Čufer gave two invited plenary lectures on lung cancer at the traditional International Congress on Anti-cancer Treatment (ICACT) in Paris. At the congress she provided over 500 participants with up to date novelties and her work in the field of lung cancer, mostly related to novel biomarkers such as EGFR mutations in lung cancer.
