International Vacuum Congress - IVC-19 together with six joined conferences took place in Paris, France from September 9 to 13, 2013. About 2500 participants from 65 countries took part of this large event. . Janez Kovač, leader of the project group was a member of the International organizing committee of this congress and Dean Cvetko and Miran Mozetič were members of International scientific committees for Surface Science and for Nanoscience and Technology. Co-organization of the IVC 19 congress promoted strongly our project group.

Detailed studies of organic/metal interfaces was performed by dr. Gregor Kladnik under supervision of dr. Dean Cvetko to characterize the organic layer morphology and molecular adsorption geometry and relate them to the electronic properties at the hybrid interfaces. In particular, coupling strengths, molecular bonding and charge carrier dynamics across the interface were studied by X-ray resonant spectroscopy in four organic heterosystems with potentially high impact for technological applications.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2481764After four years in 2012 the European FP7 project "Atmospheric plasmas for nanoscale industrial surface processing - PlasmaNice" finished successfully. In the project 15 European partners from research and industry areas were involved as well as our group lead by dr. Janez Kovač. The results of the PlasmaNice project are a new equipment and technology for industrial in-line deposition of silane-based organic functional coatings by atmospheric plasmas. Our group carried out precise surface characterization of plasma deposited sol-gel coatings using XPS, AFM and TOF-SIMS methods. We determined the correlation between the plasma process parameters, degree of surface functionalization and thickness of the deposited coatings.
